About Us
The Team Behind Quilts and Friends
(L to R): Alice, Brigitte, Salinah and Mega
ALICE WONG
Formerly a tailor, Alice still designs her own clothes and is just the person to speak to if a piece of fabric speaks to you and you want to WEAR it. She'll happily share tips on how they can be made into something stylish for any time of the day. Alice takes care of the displays in the shop - and often helps customers juggle the classes they want to attend, so the best schedule can be found for them - with time to do the "homework" in between lessons.
Favourite quilting lines:
Every piece of fabric is versatile and can do wonders, it's almost like magic.
BRIGITTE LEE
From 1998 till 2009 , Brigitte was the Managing Director of Quilts ‘N Sew Forth in Singapore, the first patchwork and quilting enterprise in South-east Asia. A keen teacher with a strong spirit of community, Brigitte played a key role in advising and helping Channel News Asia in the Fabric of the Nation project.
Brigitte has a heartfelt passion for sharing her knowledge and love for quilting.
She firmly believes that anyone can sew patchwork, can appliqué and can quilt – be it by hand or machine. If they can imagine it, they can do it. Brigitte not only passes on knowledge, but confidence and encouragement to all.
Favourite quilting lines:
If you can imagine it, you can sew it.
SALINAH YATIMAN
Coming from a family of seamstresses, Salinah used to sew Malay "baju" (clothes) at home on a part-time basis with her mother and sister. She says sewing is "in her blood. As well as being a mother of four, (aged 5 to 22) Salinah has long been a capable assistant to Brigitte since the beginning of Quilts 'N Sew Forth days. Salinah takes care of the in-house sewing and machine-quilting designed by Brigitte, and is a marvel to watch when she's seated at the sewing machine.
Favourite quilting lines:
Sewing and working with fabric is so much fun, work is a joy each day.
MEGA
Her name is Randan Omegani - but call her "Mega" - she says it is "easier". Mega takes care of the accounts for Quilts and Friends in the back room, but when things get busy, she chips in to help in the frontline - she calls this her relaxation. Sometimes you may hear a toddler in the shop. That would be Rashya, Mega's second child born July 2009. Rashya is a sweet little girl whom we think will grow up loving fabrics too, surrounded as she is by those who love them.
Favourite quilting lines:
Handling fabrics is great for relaxation.
